Our February forum in our series, “Who Is My Neighbor?” will be on the Hmong experience. Ms. Mee Moua is a senator in the Minnesota Legislature, and was the first Hmong person to be elected to the legislature. She will be speaking at 10:30 on Sunday, February 14. At noon, we’ll be showing the movie Gran Torino. Although the movie was filmed in Michigan, the original screenplay was written by a Minnesota native and was originally set here. The story follows Walt Kowalski, a recently widowed Korean War veteran who is alienated from his family and angry at the world. Walt's young Hmong neighbor, Thao, tries to steal Walt's prized 1972 Ford Gran Torino on a dare by his cousin for initiation into a gang. Walt develops a relationship with the boy and his family. Thao is played by Bee Vang, who also has Minnesota ties, having attended Robbinsdale Armstrong High School. |

The Prayer Shawl ministry continues to be a special one, both for the makers and for the receivers of these beautiful shawls. We are currently in need of more “makers.” There are basic instructions for both knitting and crocheting in a maroon folder at the left side of the church office mail slots. If you have your own patterns, that is fine, too. Any colors are good. If you have questions or wish to have assistance, please email timmerlynn@gmail.com. Truly, both makers and receivers feel blessed. Thank you. |

We know you are out there! The Library Committee wants your art on our wall. We are getting serious about promoting our Good Samaritan artists. Now on display is a piece called "The Family" by Richard DeSantis (1959-2008). The statue was created when Richard was in high school and is given to us with love by his parents Lois and De DeSantis. We would like to continue to present works throughout the year, recognizing the Artists Among Us. Just about any kind of art will be welcome. Contact victoria.dunn@q.com or ajkites@msn.com of the Library Committee if you have a piece you would like to display. Get your talent out of the closet and become an Artist Among Us! |
